2010 - The best year for solar PV yet

2010 – The best year for solar PV yet

If you had stopped a passer-by in the street a year ago and asked them what they knew about solar power, the answer would probably have been not much. However, thanks to the Feed-In Tariff, this is all changing, and 2010 has been the veritable golden (or should I say green) year for solar PV in the UK.

According to a recent report by Greenbang, more than 10,000 solar PV systems have been installed across the country in the first 6 months of the Feed-In Tariff being in place. In fact, solar PV has taken the lead in the renewables industry as as whole, ahead of wind and hydro-electricity, which also benefit from the Feed-In Tariff scheme. This is obviously great news and we here at Landmark Solar are very happy with our part played in this!

So where does the UK solar industry go from here? Well, the answer is onwards and upwards! 2011 is looking to be just as successful, if nor more so, as the momentum behind solar energy grows. The current high levels of Feed-In Tariff are due for their first review in 2012, where they are likely to be reduced. However with a growing skill base and increased public awareness behind it, it looks like the solar industry will continue its success for many more years to come!

Zero carbon adrenaline seeking

Zero carbon adrenaline seeking – the new trend?

So this may not be for everybody, however I could not help being impressed (and a little disturbed) when I came across this clip of some extreme sports enthusiasts base jumping off wind turbines. Taking an albeit unorthodox approach to promoting green energy, these guys have somehow managed to scale the wind turbines before walking to the end of the blades and jumping off, parachute in hand. Amazingly no injuries are sustained and all in all it makes for exciting viewing, however I am not sure this is one to try at home. Still, it is nice to see such eco-friendly thrill seeking.

See for yourself…

Base jumping off wind turbines – not one to try at home!
